The Challenge: Working With Limited Wall Space

Not every space comes with a blank canvas. This living room is a perfect example of an already-lived in space.

Our clients loved their home, but the tall 18ft wall was making it difficult to design the main TV wall. And whatever solution we decide on has to be to scale. This was a design and architectural challenge that needed solving.

18ft wall: Tall focal point that needed a unique design to balance scale and aesthetics.

Built-in windows: perfect for natural lighting but also limited any elaborate planning for custom cabinetry

Limited Wall width: means we couldn’t go as wide as we want with the accent wall designs or the cabinetry. Every inch count and the design needed to be scaled otherwise can look massive and overwhelming for  a 12×19 living room space.

An existing fireplace wall: meant we couldn’t do the typical wall design with having the TV hung above the fireplace. We needed another unique design to accommodate the limitations of this living room.

The Solution: Custom Built-ins That Maximize Function and Style

Custom cabinetry allowed us to work precisely within the available width, incorporating the windows as part of the overall design rather than working against them. We created a custom unit that draws the eye upward, addressing the height while also maintaining proper scale and proportion.

Console base provides closed storage for media equipment, gaming systems, and all those items families need access to but don’t want them in the open. Clean lines and a modern profile will keep the look streamlined and uncluttered.

Open shelving flanking the TV offers both display and function. This is where personality comes alive—and where thoughtful styling makes all the difference.

The Details: Styling That Brings It All Together

  • Curated Decor

The Shelvings created a great opportunity for styling. Each decor item was curated to add layers of textures and interests while also tieing the space together.

  • A Potted Plant/Tree.

This introduced evidence of life and softness while also grounding the space. Strategically placing plants can balance the hard lines of the cabinetry and make the living room feel welcomed and lived in.

  • Updated Window Treatments

We sourced beautiful custom window panels to add to the living room’s modern aesthetics. They added the right amount of softness and elegance to the living room

  • New Furnishings

The old furnishings seem dated now that the cabinetry, windows, and decor pieces had been updated with modern decor pieces. We carefully sourced and procured the modern high-end furniture pieces to complement the living room
